“Rape is a more heinous crime than murder since the rape victim dies throughout the period she lives”
– Amit Abraham
TO THE RAPIST AND THE RAPED
Seems like all is lost.
What comfort can luxury give now
when an excruciating pain lingers
In the depths of one’s soul
No one understands…how can?
How did the world come to this?
From Whence did it start?
We refused to nip the bud
Now we try to destroy the fruits.
How little do they know of rape.
So grave is the harm done in rape
They think it’s only of putting forth
But they know not more than they think.
To have such priceless jewel
Kept from birth
To be stolen
For a moment of one’s pleasure
I try to imagine the pain
“would I live with myself?” I ask
Haven’t they seen the raped commit suicide?
Haven’t they heard of shattered lives?
What then is the use of a moment of pleasure,
if it costs another a life of doom?
I pray for mercy on their souls
If only they knew the havoc
Wreaked upon their lives
If not in immortality, in eternity.
But that’s life
If we knew the consequences
We wouldn’t take the actions.
God keeps the consequences hidden
And presents a choice-
‘pleasure and doom’ or ‘doom and pleasure’

You know, I still ask myself how the world got to this state. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you are about to be raped, which I pray you’ll never, do whatever you can to get out. God knows I won’t hesitate to smash someone’s head with a stone in order to save myself because the person didn’t seem to care about me when he decided to rape me. Like Alice Sebold said-
” You save yourself or you remain unsaved.”
I’m not okay with the rape of women but then you hear about children being assaulted. I’m like what kind of a person would do that? What wrong did the child do? I saw some pictures of children that have been abused on tv, on the International Day of the Girl Child. Saw them with their scars, their pretty little faces not able to grasp why a thing like that would happen to them.
Why would you scar the mind of a little child like that?
But we forget “the ills we do, their ills instruct us so”. If these children grow up with this pain and decide to form a terrorist group against the men, and the society, we begin to condemn them and wish them dead. We forget the time when the cried for help, when their parents sought for justice and found it not.
Men worry about power, getting laughed at or humiliated while the women are left to worry about more grave things like rape and death.
The truth about rape is that once it’s done, it’s hard to forget. It’s hard to bounce back. Like only 1 in 50, or less, bounce back. It’s like a scar on the mind. They say “it’s in the past, forget it”, “leave the past in the past”, what they don’t know is that every man, every dark corner, every walk in the night, is a constant reminder of that day. Like in the words of Laurie, you ask: “Did they rape my head too?”
“I just want to sleep. A coma would be nice. Or amnesia. Anything just to get rid of this, these thoughts, whispers in my mind. Did he rape my head too?”
– Laurie Halse Anderson
I’m just going to stop here and put a few quotes that speak my mind on this issue.
“by not coming forward (about rape) you make yourself a victim forever”
– Kelly McGillis
“…women don’t get raped because they were drinking or took drugs. Women do not get raped because they weren’t careful enough. Women vet raped because someone raped them”
– Jessica Valenti
“Rape is one of the most terible crimes on earth and it happens avery few minutes. The problem with groups who deal with rape is that they try to educate women about how to defend themselves. What really needs to be done is teaching men not to rape. Go to the source and start there.”
– Kurt Cobain
Let’s try to effect a change. In the world today, women all over are being abused everyday. This was not so in the begining. God didn’t create a people that are a far cry from human beings.
Till next time.
