- Why I blog:
Blogging requires passion. As a student, I began blogging as a platform to express myself creatively – in fashion, literature, and my random rants and musings. Blogging is a form of expression to me. I love to write and I infuse that in my blogging. I’m your not-so-regular girl in search for more, and I want you all to join me in this journey, learning from each other along the way.
- Tips for new bloggers:
I believe the first thing when entering the blogosphere is passion and determination, without which, you’ll hardly be consistent. When I started, even up to last year, I was consistently back and forth with my blog…going MIA and returning with excuses. Now I’m more determined.
Secondly, as a newbie, I’ll advice you to define your niche and stick to it. If you’re sure this is what you want to do, do it. Comparisons may come your way, keep them healthy, refuse to be swayed or feel inferior.
THE SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD
The rule is to write a blog post where you mention and appreciate the person that nominated you and link them to the post, answer the 11 questions asked by the person, and then nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 questions of your own.
These are Tobi’s questions:
- When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in July 2016.
- Why did you start your blog?
Basically as a means of expression. I answered this in Zizzy’s question above. Blogging is to express my love for fashion and art, and aid my career as a fashion designer at some point in the future.
- What’s the meaning behind the name of your blog?
My sister was the key proponent in founding this blog. Thanks to her. She asked me to describe myself in one word, and I said ‘eccentric’. So we made a name from that. We didn’t want to go for eccentric girl (felt too mediocre), so we went for ‘girleccentric’.
- What are some of the top tools you use as a blogger?
I usually lament that I have a lot of apps on my phone, which can be annoying when you possess no memory card and your memory space is precious to you. My top tools would be my Word Document and note, Snapseed and Airbrush for photo editing. These two make the best combo. Canva is good for making fliers and graphic pictures. I’m still learning how to use it though. I still keep my notebook and diary handy because I tend to put things down preferably in my note than on my phone. It’s just a thing…I guess…I just love hand-written stuffs.
- What do you do when you get writer’s block?
I’m a writer as well, so a writer’s block for me goes beyond my blog. I currently haven’t written a poem in like forever, and I feel starved. When I try, nothing comes out. I however, haven’t taken time out to address that because I was busy with exams and I’m currently busy with catching up on my blog, but whenever I have a writer’s block, I try to go back to the reason I started writing, if it’s in fiction or poetry. I do what will take me back to that mood, if it’s music, serenity, or a memory. Writing for my blog is actually easier for me cos I just get to sting words together under a specific topic, but nevertheless, I gain inspiration from other write-ups, listen to some music, try to clear my head, maybe something is bothering me and that’s why I haven’t been able to write, change my environment if needed.
- What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not blogging?
Read!!!!!…then listen to music and dance animatedly
- Do you like animals? If yes, what’s your favorite?
I think animals are cool…although I’ve never had a pet before. For some reason, I love horses and cats.
- Who’s your favorite blogger?
Cassie Daves. Funny thing, I don’t read her blog so much these days, but she was the first blogger I discovered even before I started blogging, and I’ve been following her ever since.
- What genre of song do you love the most?
I love a lot of genres…if not all. I love Sia…whatever her genre may be…and I tend to prefer trapsongs, slow raps with singing interludes or chorus. So I think pop, hip-hop, blues, R&B..(I’m a music enthusiast)..
- What’s the first thing on your bucketlist?
I would love to hold a giveaway for my birthday. It’s going to be the first giveaway on the blog. It’s in July, anticipate.
- What are some problems you face as a blogger? And how do you go about solving them?
I’ve tried to shut down my blog so many times, and I think it’s as a result of comparison or just one of those thoughts that come when I’m at my low. It’s why I’ve taken a lot of breaks since I started. When I feel this way, I read the comments of people that appreciate my blog – genuine or not – and it helps me pull through. Sometimes I go on a reforming rampage. I delete posts I don’t like, change something, improve on something, do what makes me feel better. Above all, I seek encouragement from someone (I think my sister has had enough of me), and God.
I hope you picked something from the questions and my answers to them.
I’d like you all to answer Tobi’s questions too.
